Coastal is something else altogether and is decidedly more chic - coastal is beachy. By using natural light, soft tones, and a clean look, it's meant to conjure up the breeziness of the beach. Basically, it feels like summer all year inside your house.
White is the key element here....
While you might be tempted by a bold blue and white palette when you think of coastal, a cool and floaty white can be more stylish. It's definitely a sense that less is more, and it favours neutrals - It's all about natural light, keep it soft, accent colours typically include neutrals, such as a warmer beiges, greys or warm whites and pale blue-green shades.
Creating a relaxed, easy vibe, coastal chic is all about using layers of beautifully natural elements such a furniture made of wicker, rattan, or light weathered woods, and fabrics such as linen sofa covers or woollen throws, rugs of straw, seagrass or jute, and fabrics are always best when simple and classic - No shiny or flashy textures, but rather, natural materials and light, floaty fabrics, like sheer curtain panels or blinds. The use of bleached/white wood is also perfect for this vibe. We love to see glass jars or water jugs of various sizes filled with flowers and an abundance of beautiful fragrant candles everywhere.
Of course, it's great to add a few coastal touches, like shells, glass bottles, or woven baskets, but the key is not to go crazy. You want it to feel easy and natural, keep it simple and chic and you can't go wrong.
