Online styling – CAN it work?

Having an on-line styling sessions sounds slightly counter intuitive – how can someone help you choose what suits you – if they can’t see you. But Rock My Age tried it out and we can report back – that it works. In fact it was a revelation.

The colours we place near our face are so important. Healthy diet, good skincare and make up – can go a long way in helping us have that much-desired healthy glow - but colour – and particularly the tops we wear and scarves we pick - play a huge part in helping us to look vital and healthy. Somehow when we look healthy, we feel healthy.

A great first step after a session is to create a style inspiration board this helps to collate in one place, both the styles that suit you and also the mix of colours. Using your style board you can begin to source the best online stores (while in lock down) that offer the best styles and colours for you. Kettlewell is great for the basics and have a very practical and useful way of grouping their items under the four-season colours; Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter.

We also need to think about ‘the symbols we wear’ – jewellery is a key one for women – earrings, necklaces and even hats, can create a sense of authority and impact our presence and how we are seen in the world.

How we look can have a big impact on how we feel – it can change the way we connect with people. When we feel good, we have more confidence. Confidence not only attracts people, it builds trust and this is a key quality when meeting people for the first time – in business or social situations.

Moving from colours that wash you out to colours that enhance your complexion make all the difference. If you are what stylists call ‘an Autumn person’, for example, you don't want to be wearing whites, blues and blacks) you need to be looking more at coral, amber, rust, khaki, browns, camel and maybe a splash of peacock blue. The important thing to note is that tones of colours are also important – so not all browns might suit an “Autumn person. A style session can help not just pinpoint styles and shapes that fit you, but also styles of jewellery and those all-important tones and shades of colour.
